ONE TEAM
TO DEVELOP
THEM ALL

We’re a small team of creators, dreamers, and developers who mixed fun, logic, and a touch of madness and tremendous passion to make something different.

Each of us brings a unique ingredient to the cauldron—design, programming, art, music… and above all, a deep love for games that don’t look like anything else out there.

We believe games are a ritual, an experiment, a mental release and a meeting point.

We build worlds that bring players together with one shared mission: to play, connect, and earn rewards for their achievements.

Joseph Cazeres

Co-Founder and CEO

The Oopil Who Plays with Code

Some Oopils are born. Others are assembled from decades of code, determination, and a constant question: “What if we made it better?”

Joseph Cazeres software engineer, programmer, gamer, founder and CEO of Potion Code is the architect of the Oopil universe.

Passionate about the golden age of 8- and 16-bit consoles, his love for the classics defies time. His retro console collection belongs in a museum, and his library on video game history is as vast as his enthusiasm for blowing into cartridges. There’s no city he visits without hunting down retrogaming shops in search of pixelated treasure.

Like so many kids, he dreamed of having his own studio and creating games with soul – where gameplay was the true star. He had a vision. And he needed a prototype. So he sold his car, launched the plan, and surrounded himself with brilliant people who shared his dream.

After 30 months of tweaks, tests, restarts, sleepless nights, and reinventions… he didn’t just code the Oopils. He brought them to life.

Tireless dreamer, disciplined swimmer, and always tuned in to the team, Joe is the kind of Oopil who pushes everyone to go further. And though his obsession with detail nearly drove us mad, it’s also what made the most revolutionary match3 game of recent years possible.

Stephen J. Matlin

Co-Founder and Financier

The Oopil Who Thinks Beyond the Grid

Every adventure needs a map. Steve’s the one who drew it.

Harvard MBA, serial entrepreneur, and longtime friend of Joe, Stephen J. Matlin believed in the vision before it had a name. When Joe revealed his dream to launch an indie game studio, Steve said, “Let’s build it” and then made it real. He raised the capital, built the case, and gave Potion Code the runway it needed to bring Oopils to life.

As head of business development, Steve translates the game’s magic into strategic milestones explaining it to investors, shaping its commercial future, and driving it toward viability. But that’s only half the story.

The other half? He’s the Oopil-world builder. Steve helped create Oopils: The Mystery of Curiosity a children’s adventure book starring Leo and Perla and launched a whole collection of Oopil gear: t-shirts, mugs, plushies, caps. His goal? Show that Oopils don’t live inside your phone. They live in the real world too.

He’s the Oopil who looks at the puzzle and sees a universe waiting to be built.

Jaime del Portillo

Art director and Lead Animator

The Oopil Who Whispers to the Pixels

Jaime sees the world as a storyboard waiting to be drawn. Born with a joystick in one hand and a pencil in the other, he spent his childhood immersed in animated worlds, crafting stories, and button-mashing through adventures. At 36, his love for Dragon Ball and Ocarina of Time hasn’t aged a day.

After finishing his studies in professional illustration and animation at just 20, Jaime hit pause on the career track and pressed play on life itself – roaming Europe, living in London and Berlin, and absorbing everything from street art to Bauhaus. In Berlin, he joined a graphic arts studio, kicking off a decade-long design journey that took him from corporate branding to film animation, app interfaces, and, of course, video game design.

His story with Potion Code began with a conversation and a spark… Joseph’s vision of a different kind of game. From a handful of sketches, the Oopils were born. Jaime has been shaping their world ever since, pixel by pixel, color by color. For him, it’s been the most meaningful creative ride yet.

Ridho Herasmara

Lead Developer

The Oopil of Infinite Logic

Lead Developer. Algorithm Architect. Father of Functions (and three actual kids).

When the rest of us sleep, Ridho’s code is still thinking. A brilliant Indonesian engineer, university professor, and proud father of three adventurous boys, Ridho brings calm focus and elegant structure to the madness of game design.

As the Lead Developer of Oopils, he co-designed the game’s hidden brain: a dazzling engine of logic that runs hundreds of thousands of calculations per match. From dynamic grid generation to card rules, 30+ Oopils, 4 colors, thousands of objectives, and 24 unique levels per world—Ridho makes it all work without breaking a pixel.

Off the screen, he escapes into the mountains on his bike, gliding through the hills of Indonesia with the same rhythm he brings to his code—precise, balanced, quietly powerful.

If there’s an Oopil that holds the entire simulation together behind the scenes… it’s him. Probably green. Definitely brilliant.

David Perez Martín

Illustrator

The Blue Oopil of Imagination

Quiet in words, loud in worlds. David speaks fluent sketch. As the visual wizard behind Oopils, he spends his days in deep dialogue with his tablet—crafting creatures, colors, and chaos from the corners of his mind.

He specializes in drawing things that don’t exist… yet somehow belong exactly where they land. His style? A fusion of “meticulously hand-forged” and “spontaneous 3 a.m. genius.” You’ll know it when you see it—and you’ve already seen it.

When he’s not dreaming in vector layers, David dives into board games, books, and escape rooms, collecting plot twists like they’re Pokémon. If he were an Oopil? No doubt—the blue one: cool, mysterious, and probably hiding something brilliant under that pixel-perfect shell.

Perla

The Oopil Who Sniffed Out the Story

Official Studio Muse. Pug. Inspiration

Perla isn’t just a dog, she’s a legend in a very small body.
A sweet-hearted black pug with a curious gaze and a heart the size of the universe, Perla lives with Steve and Ana María… but in truth, she belongs to the whole Oopil world.

Her gentle spirit, mischievous snorts, and unwavering loyalty inspired “Perla,” Leo’s inseparable companion in the book Oopils: The Mystery of Curiosity. If Leo is the explorer, then Perla is the compass—always close by, always alert, and always ready for the next adventure (or snack).

She was there for late night writing sessions, endless brainstorming marathons, and every milestone along the way. She didn’t ask for credit. She asked for belly rubs. And she got them.

Perla reminds us that sometimes the smallest characters possess the biggest hearts.
